I know I'm wading into this a little late...but not being a massive Arcade Fire fan, I have to go with White Stripes. I remember the bleakness of music in 2000, and was lucky to have just arrived in London when the Stripes-mania kicked off, and they definitely seemed like the saviours of Rock music. I was lucky to see them live at Reading Festival (2001 or 02...memories a little hazy there Rolling Eyes ) and despite being on main stage, they put on a performance that was intense and intimate, and of course, mind-blowing.
While I love White Blood Cells & Elephant, my favourite album has to be the first one as it has that raw, wild feeling of their live shows. I was lucky to see the Stripes live a couple of times after (even once playing with Jeff Beck as his backing band), but I have to say that first Reading Festival Performance was the best! (That festival itself is at my number 1 all-time festival line-up for the friday night alone!!)

I LIKE HOW JACK CALLS MEG HIS "SISTER" IN THIS ONE.

ahhh...the memories. I was right infront of the mixing desk - centre stage (sound quality is always the best here - little tip!). Friday night line-up off the top of my head was Janes Addiction, Weezer, White Stripes and The Strokes. It was Julian Casablancas' birthday as well. The band presented him with a birthday cake, which ended up thrown into the audience. And Jack White came out and played "NYC Cops" with them!

I think the comparison is totally irrelevant. I cannot vote.

Yea there's absolutely no comparison to be made between the two...but I do have to agree with a few people that the stripes never made an album as consistent as Funeral
