A friend of mine posted the link in his blog (which is not primarily about music).

i found the site in a list of google search results. i was looking up info for an album (i can't recall at the moment which album it was), and BEA turned up in the first page of results. i hadn't run across a site like it before, and i love ranking lists of music, so i thought i'd give it a try Smile

I searched what the other best Bad Religion albums were, because I've heard two, but they have a bunch more, so when looking for a recommended one, I found their artist page here.

I found BEA in the course of doing a bit of research. Rather than just randomly listening to whatever, my daughter and I will pick a year and listen to nothing but 1973 for instance. We thought, wouldn't it be interesting to start further back and listen to the years in order. That requires finding a lot of info and assembling lists of likely candidates for a good close listen. Gives us something to talk about, it's great fun. Currently up to 1955. Wiki falls a bit short as a source for finding stuff to listen to... that's how I've come to join your lovely site.

It's great that you use the site to spend time with your daughter, but you are quite wrong about pre-1973 albums not being interesting!

I found this site because whenever I wanted to download music by a certain artist I googled artist name + best albums to get suggestions. This site kept coming up. Initially, I was kind of irritated at how incomplete the database was....and the fact that Radiohead was being mentioned in the same breath as The Beatles. However, I decided to take advice given on the site and contribute instead of complaining. Not only has it been a lot of fun, but I've discovered a ton of new music.

I was actually googling "obscure" music from the 50s. Had a look at the charts on this site for the 50s and realised at a certain distance in time it's all obscure! I'm finding that even with "popular" artists from decades past it can be very hard locating what you're looking for. Original releases are constantly repackaged and sometimes remarkably poorly mastered. BEA looks to be a very good data base and I've just scratched the surface.

About a year ago they had a Wikipedia page for "albums considered the best". On there they had a list of most acclaimed albums by major magazines and websites. They also had a list from this website of the top 10, which is how I found the website.

A few months later, the BEA list was removed from the page, and now the page has been removed altogether.
