You know what's weird? This thread has developed from me saying, very early on, that even as a liberal I would consider voting for Huntsman or Bush over Clinton and decayed into YOU'RE ALL ANTI-CONSERVATIVE

Oh did not know this

Surely anti conservative is just synonymous with progressive in the same way anti progressive would be with conservative, if you model the spectrum this way. I'd say the political position to take which requires least thought is that which you were raised with or are surrounded by since you've just arrived there by default. Many people are in this place if they're left or right though you could say that since conservatism in a larger part concerns itself with resisting social change ie sticking with status quo, that it is these positions which are more easily arrived at..

Orr maybe loony liberals actually are all simple minded it's a theory

What are you ever talking about? I'm not anti-conservative. I am conservative. I'm ultra-conservative. I defend rights won (in France) in 1936 and in the aftermath of WWII (the National Council of the Resistance program, 1944). I defend my corporation according to the 1950 decree.
How much more retrograde can you be?

The progressists are the ultra-capitalists, against whom I stand. Absolute modernity. I am anti-capitalist for sure, maybe we don't agree about who the conservatives are?

Right I guess the term conservative will hold a different meaning everywhere. I was using the term in a north American sense

What rights did you win in 1933? I'd like to read up on them.

Modern liberals are all simple minded. Or at least uninformed. They don't even know that they are not at all liberal.a

1936. Splendid slip of the finger though.

Anyway, Godwin jokes aside, there you are:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matignon_Agreements_(1936)

Basically the defense of the rights of the workers, which are in the process of being annulled under pressure from MEDEF (the top entrepreneurs' union, extremely influential in France).

The terms have all been bastardized by the Republican and Democratic parties. In the US, those who call themselves conservative likely are not, and similarly, those who claim to be liberal, likely aren't. Of course, these terms are very broad by definition. Someone can be religiously conservative and economically liberal. So for someone to claim to be 100% conservative or liberal across the board usually means that person is full of shit.

That said, I'm not hanging on to some of the ignorant conservative beliefs in regards to marriage, drug laws, race relations, mental health...etc.

Don't generalize, that's idiotic. You don't like it when people say "all conservatives are misogynistic bigots" so don't do the same to the opposite end of the spectrum.

The only way for a country to get ANYWHERE in political discussions is respect for their opponents and not treating people like they're all drooling morons.

I actually agree with UKIP on a few things, but there's so much more (Europe and energy particularly) that I can't imagine ever voting for them. If they're an example of Conservatism than yeah, it's not for me. And the Conservative party (who I'm guessing you condemned in your bit about corrupt parties) I most definitely don't support.
