Well in posting a quote I have two options; first one being what I did, just quote it and assume it's fairly understandable and not dependent on the context; I think I'm right in assuming that, since the quote itself is "plucked out" of context: it's an aphorism from the last chapter of the first volume of "Human, All Too Human", a chapter which is compiled of numbered aphorisms detached from each other. The other option one might have in this situation to satisfy a meticulous reader like yourself is to read Nietzsche very carefully all-round, each period of his thought, then form one's own consistent hermeneutical and exegetical understanding of his thought as a wholesome yet convoluted body and try to incorporate the aphorism into the context of the specifics of that particular period of his thought and interpret it teleologically in the light of the evolution of his thought throughout his life to make a full-on comprehension of the aphorism which consequentially should be in line with his other related doctrines and perceivable as a sacrosanct part of the organic whole that is his ideology. I find the former far easier and the more logical step when I post in a music forum. Sorry.

Well I'm relieved at least someone took notice. I figured since summer's over and life is good (that was at least until a few days after I joined again but then my grandma, my favorite alive person in the world, died so it seems life hasn't taken its toll on me yet) there isn't not much point in avoiding the interwebs.

Sad

I'm so sorry about that, man.

Oh, and I'm not the only one who noticed, just the first to suggest it on the forums. You were missed, for sure.

these test are dumb as hell

Quote:
Political Values
Progressivism 60
Socialism 31.25
Tenderness 53.125

Your test scores indicate that you are an open-minded cultural centrist; this is the political profile one might associate with a protective parent. It appears that you are tolerant towards religion, and have a generally optimistic attitude towards humanity in general.

Your attitudes towards economics appear capitalist, and combined with your social attitudes this creates the picture of someone who would generally be described as a libertarian.

To round out the picture you appear to be, political preference aside, a sensible radical egalitarian with several strong convictions.

This concludes our analysis; we hope you found your results accurate, useful, and interesting.

I'm progressively minded overall, but I also believe strongly in traditional stability and that steps towards equality should be done in small, healthy increments. Demanding too much at once very easily leads to backlash, which may likely create a more hostile climate despite temporary gains. Economically, I'm overall a Keynesian, but I still ardently defend capitalism, so long as it is regulated responsibly. I chose 'Middle' in the poll.

Couldn't answer the poll because it depends on the area of discussion

I tend to be a very strong conservative on fiscal matters
I tend to be more of a libertarian on social matters
I lean towards liberalism on environmental matters

Of course, sometimes these come into conflict with one another. Life is always about tradeoffs.

I guess "middle" - very worried about Trump + nuclear, and not a supporter of the republican party in general right now.

I don't know if the left completely realizes the situation with the interest rates and national debt and aging population.

If we can stay away from nukes and get the energy thing worked out then I think it won't matter much. AI/Robotics + Fusion + medical advances will create so much abundance. Those invested in equities will be well off and we will eventually do something about the wage gap. Humans will become unemployable at that point.

But until we get that abundance figured out we can't let the ponzi scheme of social security along w/ medicare and medicaid bankrupt our country.

Just no nukes please, if we can avoid nukes I think it will be okay. People much smarter than I will come up w/ tech that will solve a lot of problems.

I mostly appreciate the optimism, and I think it's rather possible. With that being said, though, the scientific community at large is really concerned about what my come of the coming years. While some innovators such as Musk are probably unlikely to be deterred or impacted by any governmental intervention, it's hard to imagine it getting a whole lot easier to be a scientist in a number of different fields. One has to imagine budgets of the EPA, Parks System, NASA, and NOAA are all going to be cut, or their research will be affected, or both. The incoming all GOP government will have the ability to muck with the Magnusson Stevens Act, effectively offering them the power to undermine all fisheries recovery acts accomplished in the past 10, or even 40 years (this act has largely been updated every 10 years, and 2016 would've been the 10 year mark of the last major reauthorization/ammendment).

Some in the Trump Transition team, including budget director Mick Mulvaney, have suggested cutting government funded research altogether, with Mulvaney singling out Zika research as a potentially wasteful form of spending. That's terrifying. If we can't research diseases like Zika, Ebola, etc., the next versions of these sort of "bug of the year" cases could become even more disastrous. Mulvaney went as far as to ask "No one has written me yet, though, to ask what might be the best question: do we need government funded research at all." (I do not know why he did not include a question mark in his sentence, but I've decided to not alter it at all so as not raise any eyebrows). There are, in fact, so many questions regarding what science will be like under Trump that there have been major archiving efforts [https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2016/12/13/scientists-are-frantically-copying-u-s-climate-data-fearing-it-might-vanish-under-trump/?utm_term=.4e8785f1c307] to try to preserve existing data so it doesn't get mucked with under the Trump administration.

In other words, I like the optimism, and it could still be there depending upon the private sector. But it's really hard for me to be that optimistic about science when there will be so many impediments in place for at least 4 years.
