The Go-Betweens
The Wedding Present
Felt
The Clean
The Bats
The Chills
Close Lobsters
The Pastels
The Brilliant Corners
The Primitives
Not all pre-Smiths but they all fit into the C86/jangle pop scene, barring The Clean, The Bats, and The Chills who are part of the Dunedin Sound scene. Anyways, they all really fit the same boot. _________________

Captured Tracks has been reissuing all of The Cleaners from Venus stuff over the last 2 years or so. Great lo-fi jangle pop with a lot of charm, and now there's a lot of material that's easy to find

Hi guys,
does anyone have some lesser known greats from the 90s they'd like to recommend? I'm trying to stray away from the usual suspects (Radiohead, MBV, Nirvana) but I'm having a hard time finding stuff I truly love. Any and all genres are welcome.

A few of my favorites, all of which I've found easy to love from day 1. (Sorry, these aren't really that lesser known) There's truckloads of great 90s music, though plenty of mediocrity to sort through first. Hope this helps

Smashing Pumpkins- Siamese Dream
Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin

Thanks! For the longest time I was under the impression that Pulp was a one-hit-wonder but I've been seeing more and more of that album in greatest 90s albums list. I'm gonna give Soft Bulletin another chance. Love the opener so much that I find myself just hitting replay before even moving on haha

I thought so too! It took me about a year to warm up to them. (I absolutely hated them at first) But now they're one of my favorite bands and have a handful of extraordinary albums
I'm totally in the same boat with the Soft Bulletin. I only really loved the opener and found the rest to blend together. I gave it a second chance and focused more on the music, rather than the vocals. I've grown to love the vocals and the album itself has become very sentimental to me. Also, if you have the time, the documentary on TSB helped me see and appreciate its revolutionary brilliance so much more _________________ "Everyone knows the moon's made of cheese."
