lets say 65th place (so right after Cannibal Holocaust and right before Harpya). And then you can knock Trick ’r Treat off the end.

also I did indeed end up adding that one film I watched today, (so I guess rather than knocking of Trick 'r Treat you'll actually be knocking off This House Has People in It).

Also I'd like to note that towards the end there I've included Der Golem. I've deliberately included the 1915 one and yes I know it's incomplete but I'm ranking based on the recovered scenes, which still generally outline the story. (Just clarifying because there's another not-lost Der Golem from 1920, and yeah it's not an accident that I'm omitting that while putting up its half-lost spiritual predecessor. Somehow what little is actually available of the 1915 moves me more than the entirety of the 1920 one. What I wouldn't give for a recovery project or something...)

You've got Black Swan at #2

a female doing regular female things like dancing and having freak-out moments.

I've actually thought about dropping that... it's labelled horror on Letterboxd, and it certainly freaked me out the first time I watched it, but it's definitely borderline. As for the description, Silver Linings Playbook is definitely not allowed Laughing

Also, you gotta watch Green Room. It's just this giant adrenaline rush. It's a bit sad watching it since Yelchin's death of course, but I think it showcased how good of an actor he was.

To DBZ, I'll add it at 65th then. Just let me know what your final list submission is Razz I'll knock off whatever the #100 at the time is.

.... Gotta start tallying Anxious

also holy hell Allabaster that's one hell of a list. I love how high you have Don't Look Now, Vampyr, and especially Eyes Without a Face

kinda surprised to see Blair Witch so high. I do think it got a lot of unfair hate, but damn top 5? Would love to hear your rationale.

Oh also many high-fives to anyone who's given high rankings to anything involving Val Lewton or Vincent Price Very Happy

Yeah, great job on the last few lists here. Lots of stuff that almost made my list (The Golem, Basket Case), more that would have if I hadn't decided to exclude some "borderline" stuff (Salo, Eyes without a Face), and a few that frankly I forgot after 10-15 years but now am dying to see again (Dagon, Witchfinder General).

My good man, please review what I said about the meaning of horror. Whereas most films produce it as a by-product of the story, Blair Witch is a 105-minute, step-by-step demonstration of what it means to feel horror. Perhaps 17 years of ham-fisted copycats have muddied its effects for some, but for me, the words of Mr. Stephen King still ring true:

Quote:
One thing about Blair Witch: the damn thing looks real. Another thing about Blair Witch: the damn thing feels real. And because it does, it’s like the worst nightmare you ever had, the one you woke from gasping and crying with relief because you thought you were buried alive and it turned out the cat jumped up on your bed and went to sleep on your chest.

Perhaps it should be my #1.

Regardless, I also found your list intriguing, Mr. Zero. I look forward to filling the gaps in my experience.
