Wilburys?

The core "supergroup", which is to say the 5 dudes with "super" resumes, doesn't even include a drummer or bassist. A supergroup should have "super" people at every position.

In the end, it's just a collection of 5 dudes who are middling guitarists and mediocre (or worse) vocalists.

True enough. The second statement is definitely a like thing, but the first part stands independent of personal taste. I think a "supergroup" should have a big name rhythm section, otherwise it's jsut supervocalists with no-name backing, no different than Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga doing an album together. The group of accomplished guitarists who record and tour together as G3 don't call themselves a supergroup just because they're all super guitarists.

Oh man, can't believe I forgot about them! They're one of my favorites. Can't say the same for the Firm through, not really a fan.
If there was enough room I would have added Probot, Transplants, and Oysterhead too.

I voted for Broken Social Scene but where are The New Pornographers? I mean these two albums alone ensure that they have the qualifications:

Mass Romantic by The New Pornographers

Twin Cinema by The New Pornographers

While I respect all the other choices, Audioslave is the only group that I genuinely listen to and not just for the wow factor, rather for the music.

Also, while I do realize Foo Fighters is a supergroup, I never would think of them that way.

If no one's checked it out, the debut album by new supergroup Gone is Gone released a week ago, with Mastodon vocalist and bassist Try Sanders, Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Troy Van Leeuwenhoek, and At the Drive-In drummer Tony Haijar, and Mike Zarin. I'm listening to the first few songs right now, and its pretty great so far.

You just called Roy Orbison a "mediocre (or worse) vocalist", so your opinion on pretty much everything is invalid.

Also, supergroups are pretty dumb.

Quite often, dude warbles rather than sings. And does so in that ridiculous, high pitched voice. You may dig it (obviously many do) but that doesn't render the "opinion" completely invalid, let alone opinions on "everything else."
