I do think, however, they are a classic I listened to this in college group... not a THIS IS THE GREATEST ARTIST TO HAVE EVER LIVED vibe from me. Idk... still totally think they are worth it (their debut and the one with NYC on the cover are rarely a boring listen.
But hey, I hate Van Halen, so there. I feel like his guitar playing is just masturbation. |
First off, I totally agree with you on that last part.
Second, Ok... I'll be honest: I see their appeal as a college band (being Ivy League alumni and all). And I get that they have rather intricate & endearing arrangements, different to the way Grizzly Bear do though (they were on my Seinfeld shortlist up until recently). Also, their debut is the only one I can actively get somewhat into. I feel it's all just still lost on me though.
I guess I'll give Modern Vampires yet another chance. You'd think 3 listens was enough to resonate (Hannah Hunt, Step & Diane Young are pretty good tracks, I won't lie). |
I'll be honest, I didn't like Modern Vampires my first listen or two... and then somehow it clicked. But that was my experience with it. Their second album I still haven't really enjoyed.

Yeah I can tell its going to be the hardest one out of the lot, that's providing if I can get past the position I'm in now with them. _________________ Some RYM paraphernalia:

The orchestration in Harvest is just... so good though. Like. That's one of the things I love about that album compared to his other work. I'd actually vow for another track or two with the orchestra. Ah well.

I think Harvest is a little over-rated - it tends to the album he's remembered for, at least outside music geekdom, as it was a number one album and spawned a number one single. It's a little disjointed; the orchestral stuff doesn't fit that well, even though 'Man Needs A Maid' is one of his best songs IMO. It's probably my 6th favourite Neil Young studio album, behind:
After The Gold Rush
On The Beach
Rust Never Sleeps
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Tonight’s The Night
Harvest and Harvest Moon are both a little overrated on this chart IMO - I don't know why people would choose Harvest Moon over something like Comes A Time, or basically anything that Young put out in the 1970s.

Sorry Weezer purests, Pinkerton is not their best album. Pretty damn solid album though.
Also Vs. is better than Ten.

I don't know if I'd really consider that controversial, I think the people that do think that pinkerton is better than the blue album, tend to be a vocal minority, not saying that pinkerton isn't great, it is, but the blue album is just amazing. _________________ Nothing really matters, anyone can see, nothing really matters, nothing really matters to me.

And whoa... I guess I've just always heard the pinkerton purest stuff. So glad we all agree it's a good album, but not their best. Heck, I'd equally rather listen to Red, Green, or of course Blue.

ok, ok, ok...
So maybe a less obvious one?
U2 totally deserves to be in the top 20 artists.
And let the hate begin.
