oh also if anyone's curious about chicago in the mid 80s, this site has a bunch of mixes from Ron Hardy http://www.gridface.com/features/ron_ha...lists.html

gonna use this as an opportunity to advertise Luv Dancin': dbz's Disco and House Selection as everything on it is amazing and 100000% belongs in this tournament thing or whatever it is

The Crystal Method album has a couple of great ones that I love. Especially Busy Child, which is great. And a couple others like Trip Like I Do., although the version on the Spawn soundtrack adds a vocalist, the guy from the 90's alternative band Filter. And it's great. The whole Spawn album is fantastic. I also like The Crystal Method next album after this one, Tweekend. And also one called Legion of Boom is alright.

I'll have to check out those next couple albums. Busy Child and Trip Like I Do are fantastic. I also really like the track High Roller. The rest is pretty above average.

Yeah, I just listened to Tweekend, and I never realized before how much better it is than Vegas. If you like Vegas, then you'll love this one. Starts out just average on the first couple tracks, but the farther it goes along the better it gets. By time I got to the end I was really into it. Dancing and shit. For some reason I didn't remember it having that many good ones on it.

Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks by Brian Eno

RKM mentioned a snippet from a book he was reading about Daniel Lanois about this album and the "south western united states" sounds on it made no sense to me until they said they were trying to incorporate something that would sound like Texas... then it was like, oh ok, I guess that makes sense. (I guess he helped with this Eno album).

Listened to this album for the first time. Thank you for scaring me for all those years with this cover. It's a pretty good album.

Also, this guy made a list like nearly a decade ago based on the overall top 1000 records under RYM's electronic genre chart builder and came up with this list. The list has changed since then of course, but still a cool list:

Also I checked out this one from Chief this week and liked it. It's music is pretty simple - octaves/fifths, etc., but then she bends them in really cool ways.

Given what chief has said... it's hard for me to vote. Do I pick my actual favorites including something like Radiohead's Kid A/anything I like with an electronic label or do I do the best in Electronic music from what I'll call a purist viewpoint?

As for the game it's as long as you can tie an electronic genre label from another source.

I'm simply not sure how to vote yet... haha.

Hey, I like that list a lot!! it really reflects my personal taste to a huge degree. although I understand that a lot of people would not agree at all.

Don't take what I said as gospel. It's just that for this thing you are doing in particular, it makes more sense for me to use the artists that I mentioned. I'd like to have something like Steve Roach on my list, but his music would fit better for the Ambient or New Age threads which are yet to happen in this genre Olympics contest. The people that I threw out there are unlikely to be able to "compete" in any other categories as opposed to something like Radiohead, which has the ability to compete in multiple "events".

PS you should listen to this one too.
