I will post again soon letting you know what I think about it.
Right here goes...
This album just did not hit me at all. It is very much the sort of music you might hear in Hollywood teen films. Wikipedia has them in the genre of PUNK, but I am not sure where this comes from. As I was typing this, ‘Dose of Thunder’ came on the stereo. This has a punkier sound, but it verging on metalish stuff like Poison or Bon Jovi (I am not a fan of these two bands and have a very limited contact with their work. However, I didn’t like it and I think there is some sort of similarity.) T-Rex springs to mind with the start of ‘Waitress in the Sky’. This was the best track so far. ‘Swinging Party’ is terrible. Side one has been polished off, and I am not too impressed. It is just not my cup of tea. The first song on side two, has that damped rhythm guitar sound that I just don’t like. Well I got through the album, but unlike so many others in your chart, I just did not like this. . . Sorry. |
Just trying to keep my post as the last one because a conversation seems to have knocked me down the list. |

Even worse than I remembered it to be. Every moment of this record just sound so sluggish and inanimate.
I'll try The Only Fun in Town by Josef K from the former members chart (interesting chart btw, welcome). |

Tubeway Army's Replicas (from itsit's chart)
Gary Numan. Heard about him when I was younger, watching an advert for a collection of hits from 70s and 80s. Cars was the song that was snippeted for the advert and those five seconds of the chorus always made me laugh. I was 8 and didn't have a grasp on any type of music.
After listening to The Pleasure Principle once previously (really should again), I looked at itsit's chart and saw Replicas.
Ah, the late 70s synth. This album has an overload of synth but that isn't a bad thing. Tracks like Are 'friends' electric and the title track are well crafted and are the real foundations for the other tracks. Some tracks seemed to close in structure to the next but this shows a cohesion to the album.
This initial listen of Replicas has sparked my interest for other Numan/Tubeway Army offerings to see how it all compares.
85/100 - Squeezed inbetween Talking Head's Fear Of Music and Electric Light Orchestra's A New World Record _________________ Bandcamp ~ Facebook ~ Tumblr ~ Twitter |

I was somehow bumped out of the list again so I have decided to try again. Harken has a lot of music I haven't heard before. I have chosen Talk Talk's Colour of Spring.
I chose this album because I was surprised that so many people have this in their charts. I remember Talk Talk from their early pop singles and had written them off because of this. I wanted to discover why so many people would rate them enough to put them in their all-time top album list.
This album is not one I would buy, but it has many good points about it. My favourite moment on the album is the warped trumpet playing on the opening track. It hints at some future sound experiments that unfortunately never arrive. What we get instead is a carefully crafted album with layered instruments weaving themselves in and out of each other. These sounds fit around the distinctive vocals, acting as a quality frame to show off his voice in its best light.
What I don't like about the album is its airy sound. There are no sharp edges. Everything floats and shimmers. This is a very [/i]produced[/i] sound. The drum sound retains the focused snare sound of many 80s albums.
Overall, this was better than I expected, but not good enough to go into any list I might put together. [/i]

Great stuff lancs. This was a change in approach and sound for the band as afterwards they pioneered the post-rock soundscape. Might have to look at one from your list...
Might try Public image Ltd. - Second Edition [btw, how dies this differ from Metal Box 1979?] _________________ Bandcamp ~ Facebook ~ Tumblr ~ Twitter |

Enjoyable. I dout that I'll ever listen to again, but it was definitely an enjoyable listen.
I'll try The Boatman's Call by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds from Harkan's chart. |
