Oh god. When did I write that list It's totally wrong.
Pretty old list, I think, created sometime in August 2011?
Anyway, I noticed you had Piper at 8, and you had written 8 followed by ), and makes the "Cool" smiley appear. I was saying that it's funny that Piper, arguably the coolest album by either Radiohead or Floyd, should be the one to get the cool smiley beside it
My top 5 RH/PF albums:
1. Piper
2. Kid A
3. A Saucerful of Secrets
4. OK Computer
5. Amnesiac
Voted for Floyd. _________________ (space blank until I find suitable controversial quote)
that isn't a bad top 5. probably the closest on this thread _________________ "I would expect something wrong with the poll if the chart favorite was not the poll winner" - naples 12-8-11

"Nickelback > Radiohead" - bork 05-14-12
I haven't heard all of either band's albums, but IMO
1. Ummagumma
2. Dark Side of the Moon
3. In Rainbows
4. King Of Limbs
That's it for now. There are a couple songs I don't like on Wish You Were Here (but I do love the title song and the Shine On You Crazy Diamond songs). Animals hasn't "clicked" for me yet. I'm not "feeling it" with Piper at the Gates of Dawn, it just sounds aged to me. I find The Wall to be quite overstated, same with OK Computer. I liked Kid A at first but I've soured towards the album as a whole. I've found Amnesiac to be just sort of... decent.
Both bands have produced self-indugent pretentious pap but Pink Floyd have produced less of it. Essentially the only worthwhile stuff Floyd have produced is that from the Syd Barrett era plus, at a stretch, Ummagumma. The contrast between this period and what came after it, couldn't be more stark - from eclectic and experimental brilliance to overproduced and dull pap. Radiohead have only ever produced dull pap.

how you can bash bands for being self indulgent and pretentious but praise the likes of Beefheart is beyond me.
i wish i understood what makes music self indulgent and pretentious pap.
is pap the same thing as crap? _________________ "I would expect something wrong with the poll if the chart favorite was not the poll winner" - naples 12-8-11

how on earth is Floyd post Barrett and Radiohead pretentious?
Everybody has got their own definition as to what they think constitutes pretentiousness in music. For me, it's best illustrated by an unfulfilled aspiration to high art usually as a result of the artists concerned either placing too much emphasis on production, plagiarizing the work of others or transforming good ideas/ concepts into bad ones.
So, for example, Dark Side Of The Moon sidelines creative ideas at the expense of production values and Radiohead cynically plagiarize others. Moreover, an artist like David Bowie with Ziggy Stardust subverted Lou Reed's decadence on the one hand, and Andy Warhol's critique of the commodity on the other, and turned them into an actual branded commodity little different in essence to say, a tin of baked beans.
In other words, Bowie was the antithesis of what his 'art' purported to be. He became a kind of crude pastiche - the cynical intentions of which was to appeal to the mass market. To my mind these aspects are illustrative, not of great art, but of bad art.
