I use both. If I'm discussing it with friends who know what they're talking about then I call it football; this is largely because the friends I talk to about football are usually from different nations who call it football. If I'm discussing it with an American that calls it soccer, then I call it soccer. I've found a couple times that I started talking about football, realized the person I was talking to was confused, and then switched to soccer.

I usually call it soccer but yes, it should be football.
Most Aussies would call it soccer because either Aussie Rules Football or Rugby League/Union are the primary ball-sometimes-hit-with-foot sport in each state. _________________ Bandcamp ~ Facebook ~ Tumblr ~ Twitter |

soccer, but only because i live in america. a name like "football" really does go a lot better with the game where players manipulate a ball with their feet rather than an oblong wedge with their hands. just sayin'. but i'm not picky.

Football. I've rarely heard anybody saying "Soccer" where I live. _________________ (space blank until I find suitable controversial quote)

definitely football. In Spanish it's fútbol and a lot of other languages translate directly as well.

If I am thinking about it I call it football. If I'm talking about it I generally refer to it as soccer for the same reasons as Purple. Contrary to popular belief in parts of Europe, though, people around here are generally aware of the soccer/football terminology dilemma. It's still fun to make fun of.
