dammit!! How could I forget this great album?! Even though it was release by the record company against Ryan's wishes, it really showcases his talent as a songwriter - especially since these songs were cast-offs not deemed good enough to put on previous albums. _________________ "Bunch of opinionated, hipster twats!" |

Yeah, even though he may-or-may-not have diluted his sound over the years, he has tons of talent to spare. If he can just channel the attitude on display in his free punk, metal and rap releases into his "official" releases, he'd strike gold again. _________________ 2012 top album = hot chip "in our heads"

he can, and has, been a bit of a twat (i saw one of his 'metal breakdowns' on stage back in 2003 in london), but has released a ridiculous amount of material in a short space of time that, on the whole, is 80-90% brilliant. One of my favourite artists for sure! _________________ "Bunch of opinionated, hipster twats!" |

One of my favorite artists too. And one of my top 3 concert experiences of all-time -- an intimate concert with just him on piano and acoustic guitar (although tegan & sara came in for vocals on a song or 2) at the paramount theater in downtown denver. No blowups (even though there was one guy who shouted out with a "summer of '69" request), no attitude. He was funny, "down-to-earth", disarming and brought the right amount of awesome to all the songs he played. Talent to spare. _________________ 2012 top album = hot chip "in our heads"

The only album that matters from 2002 is 'Up The Bracket'.Original Pirate Material was released in '02 also I think, quality album also, probably doesn't have the same stature elsewhere as it does in Britain and Ireland. The Coral,Doves and The Roots albums from the same year are worth a mention also. _________________ We ain't gotta dream no more man |

Oh yeah don't forget Original Pirate Material.
Also everyone seems to hate The Libertines on here but I'm not sure why, suppose it's got a lot to do with people just not liking Doherty. _________________ Shut up mate you're boring! |

My top 10 for 2002:
1. The Streets, Original Pirate Material
2. Antipop Consortium, Arrhythmia
3. Alain Bashung, L'Imprudence
4. Danyel Waro, Bwarouz
5. Silvain Vanot, Il Fait Soleil
6. El-P, Fantastic Damage
7. Programme, L'Enfer Tiède
8. Missy Elliott, Under Construction
9. Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Yanqui U.X.O.
10. Juana Molina, Tres Cosas
A very good year for French albums (4 in my top 10, which is extremely rare).
To answer harkan's questions, apart from Fantastic Damage which I discovered only later, all 9 others would have been in my top 10 back then, so it hasn't taken me 10 years to appreciate them. 10 years later, my favourite albums for 2002 are pretty much the same as then. |
