So hey. I have this music blog. It's called Styrofoam Boots. Depending on how much people care, I'll be updating this thread with new posts from that blog pretty frequently.

Recently, Rock Radio conducted a poll to find the best drummers of the past 25 years. It was completely terrible, and I thought I could do better. I did 10 instead of 20, but...y'know. Who's keeping track?

Part 1 is here. http://godsshoeshine.blogspot.com/2010/...super.html

Part 2 is here. http://godsshoeshine.blogspot.com/2010/...er_12.html

Tell me what you think! For future reference, all of my posts are the ones marked "CJ". Everyone else is a friend who also writes for the blog.

Pretty good! I must say some pretty interesting choices. I would never have expected the Wavves' drummer to be number one....

Keep writing! I love "blogging" as well.

Oh, and yes your list is far better than Rock Radio's list, I was quite disgusted with some of the picks.

Oh man, if you just know him as the guy from Wavves then you absolutely must check out his drumming with Hella. Listen to this, for starters: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fBCyhV9PkpY

He's incredible. Also check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IA6o4vq2ldU (wait about 50 seconds for it to REALLY get going, and 2:12 is just absurd)

And: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMfB-0zR6w0 (the best use of cymbals I have ever heard)

I wanted to resurrect this thread to say that I'm halfway through the best albums of the decade list and loving it (especially the Wincing the Night Away review, which I concur with 100%).

Thanks dude! Sorry we've been so slow at it, the blog will pick up at its regular pace once the Best of the Decade list is done.

I just read the post about the best drummers. While I know absolutely nothing about drumming and have a lot of trouble evaluating someone's talent as a drummer, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Matt Helders is a genius. I hear something new in the drum parts every time I listen to Arctic Monkeys. He seems to be able to keep three or four separate lines going simultaneously. Which I guess is what drumming is all about. But he makes each line interesting enough so that you can get as much enjoyment out of following a rhythm as you can out of following the melody.
