It's a joke, Norman.

It's not a very good one, but I tried.

And so did I. Ah, will we ever understand each other?

There has to be a devil. How else would you explain marijuana, homosexuals, pornography, vaccines, violent video games, and other things that offend me personally so couldn't have been created by God?

Not really trying to attack Christians, just those who invoke religion to justify all of their own personal values. For instance, those who think smoking pot is wrong for whatever reason and justify it by saying that it was created by the devil, despite the fact that these same people will tell you God created all of the parts of nature that they like. Just seems a tad convenient to me. I'm not saying that all Christians do that, nor am I saying only Christians do it, but it is an argument you hear quite a lot.

I mean, I would hardly consider it beating a dead horse when there's still a lot of religious discrimination and religious intervention in public policy in America. Perhaps my comment was overly confrontational and not that productive in this context, but I would say the point is still valid, and I was more trying to make a joke than change the world, so idk.

Is the Politics & Religion Forum so dead that a thread with no replies in two months can still be mid page?

I'm actually pretty sure God created marijuana, but man found another use. Marijuana is actually an herb that's good for many medicinal purposes, which is why around 20 states around the country are legalizing medical marijuana, but people at some point in history realized it makes good weed. I don't really care if it was the devil or man who made this discovery, but I'm not offended. I mean, where's the proof that the devil made the discovery? A man has a brain, as well. A man can discover things.

On a slightly unrelated subject, it reminds me of an episode of My Name Is Earl where there was this Amish group that thought of many man-made inventions to be the devil's work, even the wheel.

Now biblically, I believe The Garden of Eden never had bad fruit or plants, but when Adam and Eve sinned, God mentioned that part of their punishment was that they had to work and sweat to gain their food after they left Eden. So, I'm sure part of that work was determining if new plants they've never seen before they sinned were good or bad, which means God may have created poisoned plants as a punishment. It's possible God guided them at times if they failed to make good determinations, but it's also possible Adam and Eve stayed away from plants they didn't recognize. I don't know if marijuana was in the garden, but I wouldn't discard the idea because i really don't think the devil would create a plant that has many good qualities. In fact, I don't know if the devil has ever created a plant at all, and I don't think the devil has any reason to. But there's a common saying that the devil puts a little bit of truth in his lies to verify them, so he may do something similar. He may create a new use for something intended to be good. But I don't have any proof of that. And I already stated I don't particularly believe the devil discovered it. I think it would make a good study.

A generic argument could be, "Smoking is not a sin." I suppose people could say it is because of secondhand smoke, but I doubt a lot of smokers say "Hahaha! I shall now destroy the world by smoking! Not even Superman can stop me now- oh crap, Superman took my pack of Cubans. I knew I should've smoked kryptonite..."
