The thing is a "relationship" is not a form of abuse. Individuals in the relationship may be abusive, but calling a relationship in itself a form of abuse is illogical and often seems like a way to argue for outlawing it even if it's unfounded. It seems like this conversation is veering towards a more a general discussion about free-will rather than about legalization of the sex industry, which is interesting but is starting to cross a line, as comparing those three types of relationships to murder and beastility, even polygamy, is both extreme and without any real connection other than "are they born that way?", which doesn't really explain any possible link there might be between them.

Have you not heard of an abusive relationship? Do you know about masochism? I think another responder said polygamy was abusive: I guess because they think so, regardless of the fact. The link is the analogy. Why is one legal and not the other? Why is one born and not chosen? Don't trans genders make a physical choice? My suggestion is that you should be careful in what you legalize, what else will follow?

A couple of thoughts:

First - thanks for clarifying the whole Clinton thing. I really hadn't done my homework, so I just got lazy and asked BEA. Whitewater is ringing a bell.

Second - I think we have to remember that not all prostitutes are female. I know the majority of them are, but there are male prostitutes out there (straight and gay).

Third - I agree that legalizing prostitution might lead to an increase in the use of it, but I also understand how legalizing it takes the industry out of the hands of controlling pimps and takes it away from random street johns, reducing danger to the workers. Currently, prostitution is tied up in a world of violence, drug abuse, and organized crime. Essentially, it mirrors the argument of legalizing pot - taking it out of the hands of dealers and gangs, but potentially increasing it's use. Neither prostitution or marijuana is consequence free... (but that's where my comparison ends).

Finally - I'm so pleased that Naples is engaged in debate... See how everyone's tone has improved?

Did legalized gambling take out the violence, drug abuse and organized crime. Now the house legally wins and the Johns loose. You can still get a good blow from drugs and whores.

This is actually a very interesting point - Nevada is supposedly ablaze with corruption revolving around the casinos. Perhaps if the casinos were publicly owned - I think they tried something like that up north from here. But that's aside from the point.

Then you would have government corruption.

Never born children? The recipients of STDs? Parents that may not become grand parents?

1. As they do not exist, I don't feel they have much say here. I don't think not having children is something that should be punishable.
2. You can contract an STI from pretty much anyone, regardless of gender. I may have contracted HPV (tests ain't back yet), and it wasn't from a man, it was a woman. Safe sex is always important.
3. I don't believe anyone has the right to be a grandparent, so unless you are actually being abused in any way I wouldn't consider that serious enough harm to ban anything for. What someone's straight children didn't desire to have children? Would THAT be considered wrong? Plus, it's still possible for gay couples to have children with artificial insemination and "test tube babies".

I don't consider them wrong. Designer TTBs? Yes, THAT's wrong, because that's just straight up eugenics. Gattaca makes a great point on that.

But on the matter of TTBs, no, I don't really consider them wrong. Do you find anything particularly objectionable about them?

I just want to say that it's refreshing to see an actual discussion happening in Politics and Religion forum. Pleasantly surprised when I woke up this morning. I'd contribute, but I don't have much time right now. Later
