I've done one for the 40th of "Low" & "Heroes", then the 45th for "Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders on Mars" & "Hunky Dory". So now, since one of the albums in the BEA top 10 turns 50, let's have another poll to determine our favorite.

This is easily one of my favorite set of 4 albums (I don't count Squeeze because no original members were present), up there with Talking Head's first 4 albums - maybe even above, that's how brilliant they are. Although "Loaded" may be my personal choice, (to reiterate from previous polls:) they're all 10s in my opinion. Quote me if you disagree Wink.

Even though "The Velvet Underground & Nico" will likely overshadow the others, I'm sure there'll be a few of you - like me - that will vote differently.

I said I don't count it because of the lack of all original members. Sorry Embarassed .

I suppose I should make a run at those "other" TVU albums. & Nico is the only one I'm really familiar with and I've never been able to find the same level of appreciation for it as so much of of the rest of the music community. Maybe I'd take to their other efforts a little more.

White Light/White Heat is the one. The second side is the most glorious music ever recorded with guitars

I'd go with Velvet Underground and Nico, though, like Amir said, the second side of White Light/White Heat is almost impossible to beat. Sister Ray is among the most overwhelming pieces of music ever recorded. I'm not sure it's possible to play instruments from that time period with more emotional ferocity (they are on the verge of falling apart/breaking for the entire song).

But, VU and Nico is an utter revelation from start to finish -- amazing almost the entire way through -- and remains one of the towering masterpieces in the history of music. Few albums are as dynamic and few can touch its consistency and depth of emotional resonance, concept and ingenuity per unit of time.

Their third album self-titled is quite good, though imo not nearly on par with the first two. Artists such as Low applied a fundamentally similar style while perfecting and extending the emotional significance to far greater heights. Of their releases, Trust is the closest cousin to VU's self-titled, and the best evidence of how much better they took it.

I don't feel that Loaded is even close to their best, though I understand its catchier, more popular appeal.

I think you should listen to Oh Sweet Nuthin' again.

Thanks, but I disagree. I've heard it plenty. Besides, I just listened to Coltrane's A Love Supreme and don't want to come so far down from such heights haha Laughing
