Good album, but definitely overrated. "The Power Of Equality", "Breaking The Girl", "Suck My Kiss", "Give It Away", and "Under The Bridge" are classic Red Hot Chili Peppers songs.

Great album but not their best IMO. Love that ending of Sir Psycho Sexy, shame the rest of the song isn't remotely that good. _________________ All time

First few listens I thought this album was mediocre, then it really clicked with me and I think this album and Stadium Arcadium are their best efforts.
No the Red Hot Chili Peppers aren't the greatest thing to happen to music, but they got some serious musicality and soul, and in my book that equals awesome.

Breaking the Girl, a few other solid tracks, and some filler. Not their best album. Not their 2nd best. Not even their 3rd best. _________________ on such a winter's day

It's been years since I've listened to BSSM so I'm due to revisit it. But when I was getting into it, it felt like a mixed bag. For one, the radio singles have never clicked with me except Breaking the Girl. That's the only song I really love from this album. I'm so sick of Under the Bridge. I was never a big fan of it anyway. As for the non-singles, I only remember a few. 17 tracks - they can't all be winners. I feel 3-5 could've been omitted and made the album shorter and more consistent. One Hot Minute and Californication are exactly that. I prefer those two to BSSM. The third album I prefer to BSSM is By the Way. It suffers from the problems of consistency and length (16 tracks, well over an hour long), but the singles are amazing. I like The Zephyr Song and Universally Speaking more than anything off BSSM. Again it's been long time since I've listened to it. Perhaps it'll improve when I revisit it but I doubt I'll ever consider their best. Californication is just too good. _________________ on such a winter's day

I probably would have said the same thing until the album grew on me.

All you young whippersnappers don't understand context! When this came out it was the first album that really succeeded in mixing rap styles into rock guitar music. Without this breakthrough you don't have Rage, Beasties, Beck, and so many more that came after. And you don't have the more mature Peppers that gave us BtW etc. _________________ Top Canadian songs, keyless entry remotes, home care, whatever...

Rage and the Beastie Boys both existed before this album was even recorded. _________________
