A reminder that it's assumed that it was this album that was the tipping point for the Nigerian government, and they subsequently killed his mother for it.

They also burned down his recording studio and it almost resulted in Kuti's death himself.

That's about as punk as music gets.

Al tragedy aside, it is a pretty remarkable album. Easily in his top three.

Oh fucking Jesus. One day I'll write a eulogy to this. My girlfriend's dad runs a music festival on the Isle of Wight. Every year, it seems, Dele Sosimi headlines. He was Fela's keyboardist in the 1980s. Their version of the title track is so powerful. Norm, come.
