This series has some really great music, especially this gem. Nothing beats Final Fantasy as far as video game music goes, though. Chrono Trigger comes pretty close, but not quite.

Wild Arms had a great soundtrack, side notes about it: "The game's overworld theme "Lone Bird in the Shire", contains the melody from Ennio Morricone's "The Ecstasy of Gold" originally from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Also, the melody that plays while Mother is reawakened sounds very similar to the melody of the song "Farewell to Cheyenne" from the popular western, Once Upon a Time in the West."
I was a little harsh on Mario back there on page 2. I should probably clarify that despite being a Sonic kid when I was young, I still have a great deal of respect for the Mario games. Especially once I got Super Mario 64. I only have two video game soundtracks ranked (and only on my 90s charts so far) but to me the Super Mario 64 sdtk transcends being in the box of "video game music" and can stand alone as a wonderful musical piece of work.
