I'm reading Shantarum by Gregory David Roberts. Excellent!

Oh I loved Shatarum - it took me about three weeks to read (which is a HUGE amount of time for me) but it was definitely worth it... a real pot boiler (but in a good way) Very Happy

I am currently reading 'Far To Go' by Alison Pick. Only just started so am not so sure how it will be yet (but it has started well!)

My year 9 students are reading Z For Zachariah by Robert C. O'Brien.

Year 12 will be reading That Eye, The Sky by Tim Winton. They just finished Donnie Darko as a film analysis.

Well, a coincidence! I started Z for Zachariah recently.

Yeah, I've been reading a lot recently. Going through the classics. Really liking William Faulkner. The man is simply genius.

You know, I read Light in August in college years ago and have been meaning to read more Faulkner for years, but never got around to it. What else would you recommend? Are you a Steinbeck fan too? He's probably my favorite author.

I read Z is for Zachariah when I was about that age... Not for school, but I can see how it fits. I'm actually quite impressed to see what's on the reading list for the Alberta Language Arts curriculum - real classics by Salinger, Vonnegut, Steinbeck, Lee, etc... and some great Canadians like Findley, Atwood, and Coupland.

Right now, I'm reading Player One by Douglas Coupland - it's starting slow, but I have hope. I've really enjoyed his books that I've read (Generation X, Gum Thief, Hey Nostradamus, Eleanor Rigby)

Meh, I'm kinda sick of him. Possibly because I had to read As I Lay Dying seven-or-so times last week. He's really just a poor man's James Joyce.

If you like Coupland - give 'Girlfriend in a Coma' a go... it is probably my favourite of his! Smile

I wanted to mention this earlier, but this seems like a good place as well. I read Generation X, and or something similar by Coupland years ago and found his writing to be really pretentious.
