I have been a huge U2 fan from the start. I have purchased most of their albums at the time of there release.
The bass playing of Adam Clayton intrigued me and I started learning U2 songs in the early 80's which made me realize how good and unique his playing is.
I have been defending U2 against all of the haters on BEA since I first came on here. And I will continue 2 so do.
This is what U2 looked like when I was first a big fan of them and was telling everyone how great BOY was. I even gave my brother a copy of the album.
U2 will always be one of my favorit bands, thanks to their 80s albums. The joshua tree is an absolute killer, the unforgettable fire andwar and some of the best records of the 80s. But unfortunately after achtung baby, they just became an average band tryng to please the mass via MTV, they've lost their alternative soul.
They are undoubtedly one of the greatest rock band ever, thanks to their creative era in the 80s, and as mentioned before for their longevity which is quite rare for bands (r.e.m and sonic youth were the other giants but both broke up the past year...)
(re: Edge singing on "Seconds") Oh wow can't believe I never noticed that . And I adore that song... In my defense, he does have a similar voice to Bono
seriously, even U2 haters have to give some credit to this... The guitars (esp that amazing moment of the song around the 2:20 when the second guitar joins in), the strings, the vocals, fuck... just everything.
One man come in the name of love
One man come and go
One man come here to justify
One man to overthrow
In the name of love!
One man in the name of love
In the name of love!
What more? In the name of love!
One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resists
One man washed on an empty beach
One man betrayed with a kiss
In the name of love!
What more in the name of love?
In the name of love!
What more? In the name of love!
Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride
In the name of love!
What more in the name of love?
In the name of love!
What more in the name of love?
In the name of love!
What more in the name of love...
This is my second favorite and shows just how hard U2 can rock when they feel like doing so.
There was some argument earlier about U2's career in the 90s. Like I said earlier as well, there is a lot of crap one could say about them in the 90s. Which is fine and all, but if the music is good...

Not by me there wasn't
I have Achtung Baby at #2 on my 90's chart
Now, if we are talking about post - Achtung Baby 90's, IMO Zooropa and Pop are good albums with the same quality lyrics of those they penned in the 80's.
And, in the 90's, Bono introduced us all 2 the magnificent
