On the topic of Santorum I suppose you've all noticed the Colbert twitter attack of recent. If not, here's how it started:
In a filmed statement about a month ago good old Rick states: “In the Netherlands, people wear different bracelets if they are elderly. And the bracelet is: ‘Do not euthanize me.’ Because they have voluntary euthanasia in the Netherlands but half of the people who are euthanized — ten percent of all deaths in the Netherlands — half of those people are euthanized involuntarily at hospitals because they are older and sick. And so elderly people in the Netherlands don’t go to the hospital. They go to another country, because they are afraid, because of budget purposes, they will not come out of that hospital if they go in there with sickness.”
The statement is, of course, not true and most likely an attempt to tap into people's fears in order to win votes. Even if it HAD been true (see for instance the article in Forbes that claims that it isn't as completely false as most people say) the response from Santorum's press secretary Alice Stewart is what is really scary. When pressed by a dutch journalist on the matter, Stewart replied: "It's a matter of what is in his heart. He's a strong pro-life person".
Ultimately, this kind of blatant contempt for reality, although winning quite a few votes here and there, is one of the main reasons why Ricky will never be the president of the United States.
While we're on the topic of Santorum, I thought I'd share some of my favourite Santorum-related quotes:
- "I don't believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute."
- “I understand why Barack Obama wants to send every kid to college, because of their indoctrination mills, absolutely … The indoctrination that is going on at the university level is a harm to our country.” He added “62 percent of kids who go into college with a faith commitment leave without it." (GARY, anyone?)
- In 2003 that he favors having laws against polygamy, adultery, sodomy, and other actions "antithetical to a healthy, stable, traditional family" (in case you're wondering, "sodomy" laws would essentially be "anti-gay laws")
- In a position paper circulated in March, 2012, Santorum said he would order his attorney general to “vigorously enforce” existing laws that “prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier” (and, yes, he said on the internet as well, which means he's in favour of internet censorship).
- He has stated a policy of "drill everywhere" for oil and that there is "enough oil, coal and natural gas to last for centuries". _________________ Moderate me pls, I've been a bad girl~ mrow~

Data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health showed that “64 percent of those currently enrolled in a traditional four-year institution have curbed their attendance habits.”
I would entirely agree, most students after the first month or two just kinda... stop showing up to class. Considering how large a portion of my classes are online, I could see why. Hell, most of my physics assignments and tests are taken care of by masteringphysics.com, so I don't even really have to show up to class unless there's a lab. _________________ Moderate me pls, I've been a bad girl~ mrow~
Can someone please tell me again why everyone's suddenly acting like Rick Santorum has a chance at winning the primaries?
Maybe because Bush, who should have had no chance whatsoever at the White House, won it twice.
...what are you talking about? Bush had a HUGE chance of winning. He won the 2000 primaries by a LANDSLIDE, and in 2004 he was up against fucking John Kerry, the single most unlikeable Democratic nominee ever. _________________ Moderate me pls, I've been a bad girl~ mrow~
