Recency effect ... look at charts from the past and you will mostly see the same albums at the top accompanied by one or two "anomaly". Sometimes the anomaly sticks -such as in the case of Nevermind or OK Computer- sometimes it slips just a little like Bruce Springsteen Born to Run, sometimes it nearly disappears like Def Leppard - Yes, Def Leppard used to have an album in the top 10s along with Sgt peppers, Pet sounds, Exile on Main street before Nirvana or Radiohead existed. This was the 80s, I hated the 80s ...
I am very curious to see where Arcade Fire and Funeral will settle at in time. Very curious. I'll take arcade Fire over Def Leppard any day that is for sure.
It is not so much the lovers of an album who influence this. I gather people who have Funeral at number 1 now may still have it there 10 years from now. Just like I had the Dark Side at the top of my list forever and likely always will have it. It is not the few big fans of a group/album that raise it to the top, they are only one vote like everyone else. It is the great sea of people who decide they will have it on their list and who choose whether it will be in their top 20 rather than in their bottom 20. _________________ Down here we know very little but we are all very conceited

Hey, here's an idea: let's ask Hayden! He has Funeral at #1 on his chart.... |
Funeral is at the #1 spot on my chart. And I stand by that.
But, that's personal opinion.
I've read through the pages of this topic, and I'm finding it quite useless though.... Who cares if it's #11 on BEA, who cares if it's #1 on my chart?
It's music....You enjoy it or you don't...
RYM puts in the the top 50
Rolling Stone doesn't have an updated top 500...but it'd probably only be in the 200-300 range.
......So what? It's where it's ranked on our charts.
If this topic is just to argue about how great it is, we're only going to come to larger, greater, more obscure arguments that will come out of that....As usual....
Why don't we all talk about why Nevermind is at #6? Or why In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is at #20? Or why The Magical Mystery Your is at like..#75 or something like that.... |
Yeah, right: none of those three albums should be anywhere near those spots (I mean this in a good way for Magical Mystery Tour though, 'cause IMO, it deserves to be higher than Abbey Road )
Yeah, Hayden, it would probably be in that range.....after all, it was #6 on Rolling Stone's Best Albums of 2000s list.......
So, conclusion: This thread is useless. _________________ (space blank until I find suitable controversial quote)
