Nowt against US politics but it does sort of dominate the site. Here's a thread for any interesting political events outside the US.

What I'm sure will be a big news story tomorrow morning in the UK is that apparently the anti war, ex-Labour MP George Galloway has won the Bradford West by-election for the Respect party. Labour are going to be REALLY pissed about this they were odds on favourites to win it.

He talked about the "path of treason" set by Tony Blair and criticised the Conservative's "miserable, pathetic performance" in the by-election.

It'll be great to have George back in the Commons, a character if nothing else.

Here he is appearing in Big Brother a few years back.

Alberta is having an election this spring...

After 41 years (not a typo, that's legit) of Conservative rule in this province, they actually face a viable threat. They've become lazy, entitled, and complacent, and Albertans are starting to support The Wildrose Party. Unfortunatley, they're more right-wing wacko than the Conservatives are. Put it this way - GARY would love them. The Liberals and NDP are too fractured and lacking support to mount a threat from the left. Sadly, I'll take another entitled Conservative term than Danielle smith and her wacky views.

Info from CBC's website - covers the ins and outs of the election:

Danielle Smith's unfortunate bus paint job:

These Wildrose folk seem a bit wacky, still it's great fun when supposedly safe seats/areas are suddenly under threat and the established parties start panicking.

Love the paint job aswell. Keep me informed how the campaign goes.

Regarding George Galloway it's quite hard for me to get across quite how much of an upset it was, he thrashed the Labour candidate by something like 18000 votes to 8000 when Labour were expected to walk it, he also took thousands of votes from the Conservatives and Liberals. It's a real kick in the teeth for the so called 'big three' parties of British politics and a sign that the fringe parties could do really well at the next election.

I mean we saw our first Green MP last time round, now we have a Respect MP and with the Liberals and Labour getting a kicking in Scotland and Wales from the nationalist parties I wonder if we'll ever see a majority again. I for one will not be voting for any of the Lib/Lab/Con parties.

Thinking about it there's not actually many regular UK posters on here are there? I want to talk about this huge political event for goodness sake!

I'm from the US, but here is your outside-the-USofA-geopolitical-fact-of-the-day:

Monday marks the 30-year anniversary of the Falklands War, a classic tail wagging the dog episode in Argentine politics. I don't think they were ready for the UK to react quite the way they did.

Fun fact: French techs continued to work on Argentine anti-air systems as they were shooting down Brit planes. Friends like that...

Holy crap. Thank-you Alberta - you saved yourself huge embarrassment. Applause

If the Wildrose had one, the Tea Party (and GARY) would have moved to Alberta. Good thing we chose forward, not backwards.
