True. Jordan and Gretzky never said that. But then again, they didn't have to. Before they ever stepped onto a professional arena, they had already been annointed the kings of their sports.

It may not be the coolest thing in the world to say, but I understand why people do it. But the bottom line, for me anyway, is this: I don't care what someone says about themselves, or how they act, or what they do to draw attention to themselves. For me, it's the music. Was the music of Oasis pretentious? I don't think that it could be. And that's all that counts. Let them be douches. It's the music that matters.

Yeah, one thing that has really helped Kanye West become one of the greatest producers in the world is him really believing he was from the start.

As much as I hate all this Oprah-styyle "universal gravitation" crap, there is a bit of truth to it, especially when it comes to achieving things. If you don't think you're going to make it, you won't. Human nature will just cause you to become overwhelmed and give up. It's that simple.

But you're talking about a person here, not about actual music. How is Oasis' music pretentious?

Yeah Noel Gallaghher might be arrogant but I would never describe his music as pretentious.

I find PF's really long tracks quite pretentious, and often boring.

Rock 'n' roll smells phony and false. It is sung, played and written, for the most part, by cretinous goons. And, by means of its almost imbecilic reiteration, and sly, lewd and in plain fact, dirty lyrics ... it manages to be the martial music of every side-burned delinquent on the face of the earth. Twisted Evil

FRANK SINATRA (1957 ?)" Mr. So Pretentious "

Later: Frank Sinatra was particularly impressed with Something, calling it "the greatest love song ever written". Apart from performing Something numerous times in concert, Sinatra recorded the song in the late 1960s. Surprised

Personally I like Sinatra.

I'd say that is a little arrogant, but i'd rather have that than Chris Martin's endless moaning about how shit a band Coldplay are and how they don't deserve their success - it gets really annoying and pathetic after a while - change the record Chris! Personally I like Oasis and think they're a great Rock N Roll band - regardless of the fact they ripped of the Beatles, T-Rex etc, and have always found Noel and Liams antics amusing and refreshing from the more serious 'tortured-artist' musican!

Applause

If you take out the words 'long tracks' and 'often' that works for me too Wink

I agree that it's pretty difficult for music itself to be pretentious, but then again I've always thought the way Win Butler sings is a bit pretentious. He drags out every word, making it seem like he wants everyone to hear how great his voice is, even though it isn't. I don't know maybe pretentious is the wrong word, but it's annoying at least. I like Arcade Fire a lot, but I'd like them way more if his vocal delivery didn't annoy me so much.

But getting back on topic, I've heard a lot of people say Radiohead's music is pretentious, which I don't really understand. Because they write a lot of challenging music it makes them pretentious? I don't get all of their songs, but I certainly don't think they're pretentious.
