Piaf hit her peak before the album format took off, Can is well beloved on this site and
Mod: expletive
for chiding me over never having heard of a goddamn flamenco artist.

Lol.

Says the kid with 50 Words For Snow at his #1. Laughing

We have plenty of non-english-speaking artists in the top 1000.

Not that it matters any...we have plenty of jazz and electronica...they aren't a language at all.

About time you spoke for yourself Razz

I would love to listen to more non-English speaking artists. It is something I work towards and I look forward to it. Will take any recommendations and I am constantly expanding horizons.

Music isn't about who has the smartest or most unique collection. It is about finding and listening to what you want to hear. Enjoyment is at the heart of it. No right or wrong answers. Let the charts grow as they are. Don't game the system just because of some crusade against the unworthy people and keep to one chart. Grow and expand from there.

1) You haven't checked the right charts possibly.

2) You picked the wrong examples. It's difficult to listen to original albums by Piaf or Rodrigues: compilations are probably the best way to have a go at what they did, and we don't get much compilations in charts around here. Can is very appreciated around here, as are all things kraut. Plus, if you want diversity, you could have picked better examples than the archetypical Piaf and Rodrigues.

You may be right that Amalia Rodriguez is archetypical, but I haven't seen her name mentioned here one single time.

Probably not, because she technically can't feature in the "best albums ever", as she wasn't an "album" artist, but she still is Portugal's best known singer.

Never heard of both. I'll give her a listen though. What other artists were signed to Portugal?
