This is the main point of my post and what I believe to be the most important reason for American's retaining their right to bare arms.

Thomas Jefferson, himself a liberal in the truest sense of the definition, stated,"The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

Again, I question the validity of your insisting that Thomas Jefferson being a liberal makes his argument more justified or that liberals should automatically give his argument more credence because he was a liberal. Thomas Jefferson was also a liberal who owned slaves, but I don't think that means liberals should be more inclined to think slavery is right.

In America how many deaths are caused by guns annually?

According to the CDC in 2006, Last up to date numbers, 30,896 total, of which, 642 accidental, 16,883 were Suicide, 12,791 were Homicide, 220 were Undetermined and 360 by Legal intervention. Remember that in the same year, 43,664 were killed in Motor vehicle accidents, 37,286 died from poisoning, 20,823 died from unintentional falls. In 2005 CDC reported 652,091 people died from heart disease, 559,312 from cancer and 143,579 from stroke.

Maybe we should outlaw motor vehicles and ladders while we are disarming the American people.

A semi-automatic weapon is made to shoot other human beings. A ladder is not made for people to fall off of it.

I don't disagree with the right to bear arms as a means to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government, but there's too much mental illness and ignorance to be handing out guns to everyone. Not to mention a violent revolution does not work anything like it did back in 1776.

This entire notion of the government wanting to ban guns is propaganda bullshit.

Feinstein calls for banning more than 150 types of firearms during dramatic press conference
11:54 AM 01/24/2013

WASHINGTON — California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein staged a dramatic press conference Thursday on Capitol Hill with 10 weapons at her side and unveiled legislation instituting a government ban on more than 150 types of firearms, including rifles, pistols and shotguns.

Flanked by other anti-gun liberal lawmakers, including New York Sen. Chuck Schumer and Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, Feinstein announced the introduction of the “Assault Weapons Ban of 2013.”

Haha yeah, just imaging you and your buddies taking on the US military, good luck with that.

Seriously though, the army don't use muskets and cannon anymore, the argument that citizens should be armed to prevent tyrannous governments just isn't valid in 2013 (at least in developed countries like the US).
