Apart from the fact that Atlas Shrugged is a awkwardly written story with stock characters... My main issue is that there's no middle ground. Either you're a heroic laissez-faire captain of industry, or you're a sniveling cowardly psuedo-communist who is looking to mooch off the state. This 'either/or black or white' mentality is what is killing politics today.

Well.... Ayn Rand did "mooch off the state" in her latter days, although really the most "agregious" offense was accepting social security which I don't consider mooching at all, considering it's not a pile of money just handed to you unlike what some would have you to believe. However, it did prove she was more than willing to be a hypocrite to serve her own needs, and that at her best moments she was nothing more than a persuasive bullshitter. Im fine being a psuedo-communist rather than those who preach Ayn Rand (like many of the new breed of republicans) to make getting rid of medicare or any other beneficial government program look like a good idea. Ayn Rand was nothing more than all-talk in my book, and it's rather unsettling how much "philosophical" influence she has over a fair amount of the Republican party today (I donno know about other countries so Im not going to make a snap judgement towards other conservative parties outside the US, but she definitely has a global following).

I know of no republicans that want to get rid of Medicare or any other beneficial government programs. Care to elucidate?
