Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 23% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.9/100, a mean average of 72.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.7.

There is nothing bad here, though it can sometimes get boring.

Another great album from X. There are a couple of non-punk songs on here that I think are among the most beautiful in the X catalog: "Riding With Mary", "Come Back to Me", and "Dancing With Tears in My Eyes" (a cover of a much older song). Exene's sister Mary had died in a car crash before this album was recorded and that tragedy was the impetus for "Riding With Mary" and "Come Back to Me". "Blue Spark" and "The Hungry Wolf" both received minor airplay, but my favorite songs on this album are "The Have Nots", "Real Child of Hell", "Under The Big Black Sun", and "Because I Do". Most listeners and critics regarded X's first two albums as their best, but I'm a true X fan, and I think this is equal to or better then either of the first two. The lyrics of the two songs for Exene's sister, the cover song...demonstrated some real artistic growth, I think. Billy Zoom continued to kick ass, and John Doe and Exene's male/female harmonies continued to be a fairly unique combination.
Stands up to the first two albums, and even has a haunting single ------
The hungry wolf
Don't know if I'd put it above Los Angeles or Wild Gift, but this is still a great album. X is sorely overlooked on this site!
Great rockabilly influence. I think I prefer this to their debut. If you like the Gun Club, you'll love this !
