No more selling out than Attack & Release, the difference between the two was Tighten Up not less soul. In fact I feel like this one has more soul than Attack & Release as much as I like that album
Glad I gave this another listen. Thought it was too elementary and too regurgitated, but I actually like it better than I thought. I guess it is one of those mood things.
Edit: Another listen, an this album is awesome. Will be adding, moving up my lists.
This is first album I ever heard by The Black Keys, and what an album! Strong from start to finish.
I think my favourite track is "Next Girl"
I've now started working my way through their back catalogue!
The album that began the true mainstreaming of the Black Keys sound. Still a solid album, but the bluesy magic of their earlier albums is gone.
If you're looking for the year's best blues rock, pick up "brothers". The riffs are subtle but strong and between the musicianship and the melodies, you'll become lost in some strong material. Never thought I'd like a black keys album this much -- makes me want to re-listen to their back catalog.
Leave out "Unknown Brother" and this could be as good as El Camino.
A solid record, pretty good live too. Favs; Everlasting, Howlin', Go Getter.
Will be remembered years from now. Creative, catchy, and original.
Another fantastic album after Attack & Release. Danger Mouse only produced Tighten Up, but the music on here still has many more layers compared to their earlier albums. The fact that most of the songs are awesome is impressive considering there's 15 of them.
