Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.5/100, a mean average of 78.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.0.

Gorgeous production, stellar songwriting, haunting vocals. The ultimate juxtaposition of hard rock and shoegaze.
Not even in the top 2,000 albums on this site?!? You've got to be kidding. This is one of the four greatest shoegaze album of the original early-'90s era, along with Loveless, Souvlaki, and Nowhere. Chrome is quite good, but it's mostly a pseudo-metal album, not so much shoegaze. The guitar sounds they achieve here are fantastic. "Black Metallic" gets all of the ink, but there are so many other fantastic songs - "Bill and Ben," "Indigo is Blue," "Shallow," "Texture," "She's My Friend," "I Want to Touch You," "Flower to Hide," "Salt," and on the US version, "Balloon." Rob Dickinson was probably the greatest *songwriter* in the original shoegaze era other than Neil Halstead.
One of my favorite 100 albums of all time.
Pleasant, but not as rewarding of a listen as classics by bands such as Ride, Slowdive, or My Bloody Valentine.
I think the album starts strongly from "Texture" to "She's My Friend", followed by a slight dip and right back with "Flower To Hide". Great interplay from the two guitars and always banging bass and drums. Somehow I've only just found this gem but so happy I have - listen and enjoy
Music in this year was mostly mediocre, but this was a standout. Just a very strong, cathartic, rich sound to this record, with beautiful, slow-churning melodies. Music for the sake of music, sound for the sake of sound. Like most of shoegaze, the words mean nothing but the vocal delivery is everything.
This is their 4th best album! Really? Were they big in America or something?
Wonderfully woozy!
I enjoyed this album a lot. It may be not as good as Loveless or Ride's Nowhere, but it's a very good shoegazing record. It's a consistent album, there is not a low point here, it's energetic, fun and dreamy at the same time. It's recommended to any shoegazing fans.
My track picks are:
'I Want to Touch You', 'Black Metallic', and 'Flower to Hide'.
Always written off as a bit of a joke and not cool enough. Maybe to do with the singer being bruce dickinsons cousin. Not sure but I always thought this was a great album. Saw them.live too very good.
Along with Curve, another ignored group
