Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

I don't think it is appropriate here to call DCD "Gothic" or “Gothic Rock”. The music on the first album is not really indebted to "Gothic", unless you think the electric guitar would have been inspired a bit too much by the work of The Cure and the likes. The unique voice and singing of L. Gerrard, as well as the unique, somewhat melancholic voice and singing of B. Perry are, in my opinion, too special. This also applies to the instruments used, the ethnic percussion and especially LG's yangqin with which she accompanies herself in numerous songs. The path that the band will follow later is already very clear on this album. With “Within the Realm” a maximum effort is made to obtain an alienating sense of timelessness. For this record it is still unclear. However, that does not mean that this first album would not be very good. It is. In comparison with the many contemporaries at the time it’s a valuable relief.
Not as well known album as others by Dead Can Dance, yet in my opinion it may be their best one. It's full of that young experimental energy, each track is memorable and interesting.
Although this is good, they soon made better albums.
