Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 19% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.1/100, a mean average of 74.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.0.

Road Apples is one of the Hip's best records. There are 4-5 signature songs. Its an album that rocks hard, but even the lighter songs like Fiddler's Green and Long Time Running make an impact.
There is definitely more of a funk influence on this record, most notably in Twist My Arm. I guess that comes from what was popular at time. It also seems like Gord Downie's delivery is a lot more aggressive than it was on the releases that followed this. Downie's lyrics hit another level with their next release Fully Completely.
Favorite tracks: Little Bones, Three Pistols, Long Time Running, Fiddler's Green, and Cordelia.
This is a band finding their sound, and finding it with swagger. Everything seems to be working for the band here (except for their desired album name), and their confidence and passion shines through. Unlike with Up to Here, the band manages to build a coherent album that is strong straight through on Road Apples. "The Luxury", "Cordelia", and "Long Time Running" are favourites here.
Hardest rocking Hip album, oozing the most attitude. Not as many classics as other early Hip work, but the album as a whole shows them really flexing their muscle. A vital Hip album.
Gotta lotta playtime in 92 when I only had 5 or 6 CD's. Little Bones was one time fav Hip song. Good album.
This never quite coheres as well as their other big five or six. This was the band saying goodbye to their blues tinge before they discovered a sound all their own on Fully Completely. But certainly, there are a lot of great individual songs here, and hey, it's the freakin Hip, right?
