Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.6/100, a mean average of 73.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.8.

A much more pop orientated sound for Belle and Sebastian. Write about love, still sees the band on form, but there's nothing spectacular on this LP. It's all fine, competent and all that, it's just that edge is gone, that magic touch that they had on their earlier albums is missing. Inspiration and desire are a little lacking in my opinion. It's a fine album, but I want more than that from Belle and Sebastian. So-so.
Consistently good album, particularly like the more upbeat songs Write About Love and I'm Not Living In The Real World. They very much have their own sound but this isn't as good as The Life Pursuit, the only other album of theirs I've listened to more than once (so far).
A great album that it is very upbeat, unfortunately I feel that it drops off a bit at the end...
This is the proof that they are consistent songwriter. Unlike many other band, they just keep making good songs. Hope they could continue to write and play songs Til the day I die.
Its pretty good. There are some memorable tracks on here.
I think Belle & Sebastian are bored of being Belle & Sebastian; at least, the B&S sound they've carried since "Dear Catastrophe Waitress". They even wanted you to forget about B&S as God Help The Girl, even though they "covered" a couple of B&S tunes. (Ok, that wasn't the whole of B&S as GHTG, but still, why rely on "old" material?) Anyway, the fire's dying on what was once a killer new form. There's not much on this album that'll remind you of the catchy thrill-ride of "Dear Catastrophe Waitress" except for the lone remaining proof they can still write a killer pop tune in "I Want The World To Stop".
