Kate's masterpiece. A beautifully crafted album of warm sounds, mixed with icy precision and featuring her most enduring songs - Running Up that Hill, Cloudbusting & The Big Sky still sound fresh and innovative. If only she would play live.........
Running up that Hill is one of those songs that everyone tries to cover...but can't. Even one of my favorite bands, Within Temptation, couldn't do a halfway decent rendition. Some songs cannot be replicated. Hell, some -artists- can't be replicated. I might not be the biggest Kate Bush fan, but I do respect the hell out of her.
One of the best records of the eighties. “Cloudbusting” and “Hello Earth” are ethereal masterpieces, “Mother Stands For Comfort” and “And Dream Of Sheep” are lovely and haunting, and “Running Up That Hill” and the title track are unlike anything heard before or since. Some truly odd moments, and not for every taste, but well worth the journey for those willing to explore different musical ideas.
I have just lost all respect for Robert Christgau - famous music critic. He gave this album only a B-rating. It deserves A+!!
Kate's most popular album and the most creative, mixing a series of great story led songs with a conceptial journey that really mixes up the styles. Cloudbusting is one of my favourite songs.
