Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 63.3/100, a mean average of 60.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 60.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 20.3.

DMB makes their great Busted Stuff and no one listens or cares. Panicked, the band tries their hand in main stream pop again but do it worse this time around than they do on Everyday.
This band was out of creative juice having done all they could with their signature sound and not having any real idea where to head next. This is bland pop rock lacking hooks.
American Baby is sweet sounding but a billion people have written about a beautiful American girl before.
You Might Die Trying is the only redeeming song on this steaming pile of manure.
I was so discouraged when I heard this and wrote the band off at this point. If I hadn't heard about the death of the saxophonist Moore and the DirecTV documentary of the making of GrooGrux King around that tragedy, I never would have returned.
It's sad to say that a tragedy is what it took for DMB to find their creative juices again. Without it, Stand Up probably would have been the end of the road for a very good band.
