Second half is a a little weak but still a really good album in U2's discography.

Stuck in a Moment is a brilliant song ruined by over-production. I love the acoustic version. Same with Walk On. Grace is absolutely beautiful, along with tracks 5,6,7. A bit sappy on peace on earth and look at the world. Beautiful Day, Elevation, and New York are great rockers. I remember at first listen I didn't like half this album, then it grew on me and I loved it, and now that time has passed it goes somewhere between the two of those.

This is the first U2 album I remember being disappointed in. Many hailed it as a "comeback" album which infers that the 90s albums were something that needed to be comeback from. I loved 90s U2 because I loved it when they were trying to reinvent themselves and keep pushing to sound new and fresh. This album sounds like a retred of all the old ideas as a way to get back to the top of popularity. This was the first time that U2 ever concerned themselves with that.

A big comeback with great songs

Edge lifts “Kite” from what could have been a treacly ballad to something very poignant. “In a Little While” and “Beautiful Day” are good pop songs. The rest sounds uninspired at the very least. Obviously, I’m not hearing what many others on this site are hearing. Are there three songs on a release by a heavyweight band as miserable as “Wild Honey,” “Grace,” and especially “New York?” Flaccid songwriting from a band that seems to be lazily trying to get an albumful of material.

This isn't even the 335th best album of the week it was released.

A true return to form and not as usual with these kind of albums. They really are as great as the were back in the days on this one.

The first side is great, but the second side is just kind of a muddy mess of similar sounding songs.

Those who say it was a comeback argue that Achtung, Zooropa and Pop were bad. I like it when a band reinvents themselves. The 90s era U2 were great - this a step back towards the more familiar, but with a twist - they are older, more optimistic, and a little more reflective. Not bad, but not the all-time classic some make it out to be.

After Beautiful Day, it all sounds the same to me. Boring.
