Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 61.0/100, a mean average of 60.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 60.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 23.8.

Enjoyed this album. Don't really understand the disrespect. It's pretty much a full departure from nu-metal and rap to a more milquetoast pop-rock type sound. There's a hint of screamo left mixed in with mostly ballads. Best track is What I've Done, but I also enjoyed In Between, Bleed It Out and Given Up. No real weak tracks but the worst is probably Valentine's Day.
It sucks……
Credit must be given to them for trying a different approach despite the huge commercial success of their first two albums. It is not great, but it is definitely better than their previous attemps and worth giving a listen. The first part of the album is stronger than the second. Overall, 65/100.
They stepped outside of the box and it worked. Rob Bourdon and Brad Delson were at the peak of their powers on this one.
Made while the band was still a band, and not Mike Shinoda feat. Linkin Park.
Well, I'm a little bit biased, because this was my first album, I ever bought myself. So for nostalgic reasons I prefer it to other LP records.
It's just more diverse and doesn't bore me one second. We get (pop-friendly) ballads next to tight rock moments (Given Up), than there's experimental stuff (with gospel sounds, ffs). Mike Shinoda is amazing on here. I mean, I get that MTM is not what most people expected from them after these crushing first records, but damn, this is so underrated. My personal favourite is The Little Things Give You Away - bitterness can feel so great.
The best Linkin Park album.
Not their best, but was a brave break from their two previous albums, and have som really nice tracks on it :)

surprisingly good for a linkin park record. I grew up with this band and it still holds up. It's somber and effective in what it does. It captures Linkin Park at their peak and straying-away from their edgier days.
Linkin Park's first 2 albums Hybrid Theory and Meteora were kissing cousins in sound and execution.
Riding the successes of those two they attempt a different direction and the results are jarringly different.
This stuff is tame. It isn't bad. It just isn't what Linkin Park sounds like.
Apart from Bleed it Out, What I've Done, and Given Up are the only songs here that remind you this is Linkin Park as they delve into previous work. Everything else here sounds like a different band.
It is all melodic and pretty which is weird term for LP music. It's simple and lacks meat and layers.
Valentine's Day combines the new sound sound with their typical brooding for a nice change and a solid song.
This is their worst album and it isn't close. They mine this vein again on the much creatively better A Thousand Suns and return to a more rock sound after that for better results.
I mean Shadow of the Day is good. But it sounds like a song Justin Beiber should be singing. This sound doesn't fit this band.
