Great record with amazing lyrics
Cohen has really unique style on this record and I like it.
Dude is vindictive in this one, even his voice carries a level of brooding anger not heard before. This is the most "produced" of his classic trio, yet it keeps being rather subdued when compared to his later work.
Whenever I get the sense that Cohen is too Stoic I listen to this too remember he is also capable of real human f*%k you all atittude
he can really rhyme other than that not much here for me

Essential Cohen
Perfectly dark and brooding yet some how beautiful like a bleak day drizzling with rain
Dark, Disgusting, and raw. Should just be titled 'Songs of Hate' because even the love songs here are grounded in hate. Really great listen when you're in a f*** the world mood.
Best Tracks: Avalanche, Joan of Arc
whenever i drink i listen this album and cry...
The third classic album in a row from Leonard Cohen. Songs of love and hate, is a stunning record full of fantastic songs. Avalanche, is a brilliant opener, brooding and mysterious. Other standouts include, famous blue raincoat, and, joan of arc. Diamonds in the mine, is a fun singalong and, love calls you by your name, is another highlight, as is, dress rehearsal rag, and, last year's man, Oh what the hell, they're all amazing. With the exception of, I'm your man, Cohen's best albums are the first three, this being the last of them. He would continue to make great music, but these records are the reason why Leonard Cohen is spoken in the same breath as Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell. Excellent.
