I do wish some of the 80s elements on Red Light and Surrender were left off to let me like them more, and to make them more timeless, but other than that, one of U2's greatest albums.
this is their best album imo. yes this isn't solid as Joshua Tree, and this isn't intense as Actung Baby. But this album has emotion that no one can imitate or make again. Rough but warm album
Actually, I've changed my mind about this, it's a really solid album. i still believe it to be U2's best though.
The best of U2's early albums. The songs on War are held together with a theme about struggle. They take the universal concepts about War and strife in their homeland and relate them to the inner struggle going on within each of us to be something better.
Only U2 worth giving a listen. It's a hit and miss album, but generally the songs suck.
U2 is not really one of my favorite bands (though I respect their talent), but War is one of my top albums. The songs are honest, emotional and unpretentious and really capture something special. “New Year's Day” has to be the best thing they ever did—and is on a pretty short list of my favorite songs. Edge’s guitar work really hits something primal and powerful.
Sunday Bloody Sunday.
Probably their most inspired (but not best!) album. They got their message across without being pretentious (for once).
The best of U2's early work. An earnest band that could craft together such strong anthemic rock. It has aged well.
