Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 6% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.8/100, a mean average of 74.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.8.

Yes another concept album centered around the theme of war again. That doesn't bother me as I am in it for the songs and I like and love them. I always love his snippets - submarine commander discussion, old veteran from the trenches and no man's land - but what I think holds this album is it is actually quite funky. Funk with great non-funk guitar solo's and often dark witty lyrics and that low key vocal delivery.
I got this at the release time and remember initially not liking it too much - and recall getting into it from the end of the album backwards. I started to love the 4 end songs till eventually I got the full album. A fine effort and a go-to album of mine for decades now

Great album by Roger Waters that is one of his three (mostly) solo masterpieces along The Wall and The Final Cut.

There is without doubt some great music on this album and Jeff Beck contributes some excellent guitar soloing. However, Roger Waters just doesn't seem to be able to detach himself from the endless theme of war, the war which affected Roger Waters so deeply, losing the father he never knew to it at five months old and I still think there is a lot of personal bitterness coming out. With lyrics like 'What God Wants, God Gets, God Help Us All', it is hard not to hear the bitterness. When the album starts with the spoken word from a victim of trench warfare I couldn't help feeling 'oh, here we go again'... The Wall part three.

I like this album but am not as positive as some of the comments. It has some great songs, especially till the end, but also other songs with some interesting lyrics but hardly nothing to highlight in terms of music, and that's something that didn't happen in most of Pink Floyd masterpieces.

A good album. A concept played by great musicians like Jeff Beck, Randy Jackson and Steve Lukather.
But there's something missin': the magic touch of others Pink Floyd.

Nobody who listens to the lyrics can't be moved by this. By my opinion this is THE best album of the 90s, and yes I have heard Nirvana and Radiohead. This sets all pop-culture and television in perspective. How we respond to what's shown on TV. We don't cry when we see a kid that has lost his foot by a foot-mine. We just think: aww, pity him! Because we see so much of it every day that even the news s just like any other TV program. And since Television is more or less the only way we receive pictures of situations around the globe, so that is also the only impression we get.

When the the concept is so deep and well written, AND the band members are all A-team musicians(Jeff Beck, Steve Lukather, Randy Jackson, David Paich and Don Henley. This album is so overlooked that it's devastating.

This was maybe written 25 years ago, but this is still just as relevant today as it was then. Now that we'r walking around with computers in our pockets, maybe it's even more relevant?
