Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.0/100, a mean average of 76.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.9.

Very expressive and growling way of performing. Really like it.
The compositions are the consequence of his playing and can be very unique.
The mixes on this record are very peculiar and intense. Just read that were done by Ben Frost.

A haunting masterpiece of pure technical ability. Colin Stetson is a masterful musician and shows it with this incredible album. Every track haunts me to my very core, thrilling and mesmerizing every bone in my body. After initially hearing the album it was common place for me to lay down in bed listening to the album as I sat there with my thoughts with these enchanting noises flooding the room. And all the music beside when you watch Stetson perform this he seems like a powerful force ready to explode. There is no looping or dubbing. It is all Stetson, his instrument and soul. What I would give to see him live.

In my lifetime, I've listened to a lot of music, and I can honestly say 'From No Part of Me Could I Summon a Voice' is one of the most impressive pieces of music ever made. Beautiful album.

I saw Colin Stetson live earlier this year, opening for Godspeed You! Black Emperor. He walked on stage with his bass saxophone and started playing "Judges". It was a memorable moment, having never heard anything like it. I remember being deeply moved, Stetson at times almost screaming into his sax whilst creating an incredibly full sound. I turned to my friends to say how impressed I was, but couldn't imagine listening to an entire album. Oh dear, what a fool I make, now I have it at the top of my chart. The music is painfully beautiful, oscillating between avant-garde jazz, classical cadenzas and arpeggi, and earthy beats. It sounds grand and ancient. It sounds like something from the Lord of the Rings (maybe the stunning cover got me thinking of Rohan). Let it sink in, and I'm sure it will age like fine wine.
