This is the closest anyone came to matching the Beatles' output in the mid 60s. Brian Wilson's work here is bold and ambitious, but still catchy enough to be accessible to the casual listener.
A Good album you can tell the impact it made listening to it but for me growing up with '20 Golden Greats' the hits standout compared to the rest of the album.
Innovative and creative, this album has stood the test of time. However, I feel it can be quite monotonous and tedious at times.
Nice and melodic like a Beach Boys album should be, and psychedelic influences are clear. Very likeable.
On Pet Sounds, Brian Wilson changed the direction of popular music and sowed the seeds of hundreds of imitators to emerge across several genres.
Astonishing accomplishment, towering acheivement, etc, it's all true. In 1966 and now. The sound of Brian Wilson creating a new kind of music. Dense, lovely, moving.
Massively overrated album. I recognise it's importance and influence however.
Hard to take this one seriously at first, to be honest... not because of the Material, but because it was the Beach Boys. I now understand how awesome Brian is though... and applaud them for being versatile - a party band and a best ever album band.
Awesome album.
This album may sound overrated to today's listeners but there is no understating how influential this album was back in the day. Pet Sounds basically invented the full length album and took rock and pop music in a new direction.
