Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 64.9/100, a mean average of 63.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 63.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 23.0.

Grandes acertos em um álbum meio que esquecido.
A disappointment after the excellent "Butterfly", "Rainbow" was in essence a rushed release in order to leave the label that was suffocating her work and her personal life throughout the entire 90s. I understand and sympathise, but that doesn't make this record any better. Perhaps listen to "Heartbreaker" and its great remix, along with the very personal "Petals". Also, seek out the "Thank God I Found You" remix featuring Nas which vastly improves upon the original.
"Rainbow" is a blend of chilled-out hip-hop/R&B and her usual adult contemporary fare, but all of it comes across as a product far too smoothed over; excluding "Heartbreaker" and its remix, this record really is quite bland. It's a step down from her magnum opus "Butterfly" and it's easy to see why. Mariah quickly wrote, produced and recorded her vocals within a few months and rushed this record in order to get out of her oppressive label situation and away from her abusive, controlling ex-husband tommy mottola. I completely sympathise and understand why her heart wasn't really in this, but nevertheless I just wish it had a few more impressive tracks on it. As well as "Heartbreaker" (and its remix), I'd suggest listening to "Petals" for its very personal and revealing content.
