Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 76.9/100, a mean average of 75.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.0/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.6.

Very nice, early synth pop, not a one bad track here, I'm surprised.

This album is better than average but nothing too amazing. Yes it is synth pop technically but the bass carries this album. So glad I wasn't the only one to think that about this album. Somewhere between a 70-75. It's got a great aesthetic to it where you can just put it on for casual background music and drift for a hangout session or something of that nature.

Tracks 1,3,4,6,7 are the real standouts on this album and they are the songs which draw me back to this release. The catchy choruses and dream like state these songs put you into is fantastic. They do this with the use of the vocal and keyboards which form a deadly combo which gets stuck in your brain. The drum work is brilliant in places as well but the bass steals the show in my opinion and deserves all the credit that it gets. The record is such a smooth ride as well and creates a chilled out atmosphere that makes this album so accessible. However, I do think there are issues with this record such as the weaker tracks which do feel like filler. It also can get quite repetitive and you do find yourself getting kind of bored of the music by the closing tracks. It needs a bit more energy in places to really keep the flow going. Overall, some great moments on this record that I love to revisit but I don't think this album is amongst the truly elite.

This album is the most magical and satisfying album of the 80's. From the opening spacious sounds that take you to another place to the upbeat tracks like Promise You A Miracle, the dreamy Big Sleep and the mysterious Hunter and The Hunted, this album is strong from start to finish. The perfect album and my favourite from Simple Minds.

Not a bad album, tracks 1, 3, 6 and 7 are highlights, let down by some dull tracks.

A pretty solid album, I especially love the instrumental in the middle. Also a great album to sing along to-one of my favorites to do so. The bass in this album is fantastic.
