Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 78.4/100, a mean average of 78.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.0.

raging album
I do not agree with everything said on this album but there is no denying it is a passionate example of a particular movement at a particular moment in time. It is raw and hits hard it is unapologetic and completely not politically correct but this album is essential and should be played in history courses studying the late 60's early 70's Black American experience. POWERFUL.
A profoundly moving piece. I can't think of a more impassioned political album; it lurks under the surface of 60s protest songs, such as those of Bob Dylan and Joan Baez as well as the more tacky songs from the likes of Pete Seeger.
However, I find Scott-Heron a potentially more difficult artist to appreciate than say Ezra Pound or Roman Polanski - at least their views/actions don't push through into their art (literally). I frequently skip 'The Subject Was Faggots.'
