Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 7% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.4/100, a mean average of 74.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.3.

'Steppenwolf' is a great classic blues rock album. The big ones are 'Born to be Wild', and 'The Pusher.' If you listen to classic rock radio at all you've most likely heard both a hundred times, especially 'Born to be Wild.' They hold up great, and sound good in the context of the album even if they feel played out otherwise, and both tracks deserve their status as all-time greats. 'Hoochie Coochie Man' may've been more fun when it came out, especially if you didn't know the Muddy Waters' versions, but it feels bland. 'Sookie, Sookie,' is a cool opener, and a lesser known Steppenwolf staple. Two songs that I didn't pay much attention to when I heard this 25+ years ago are 'Desperation' and 'A Girl I Knew,' both are standout tracks, and make me glad I went back to this. The other album tracks are pretty good, and nothing is listenable. It's a good album to throw on and leave go.
For many, this album may sound a tad dated. But in the context of the particular point in time, it sounds tight, fresh, advanced, and creative. It has lots of vibes from many genres (which makes it interesting): blues, Hard rock. psychedelia and prog. Very cool...
Hard sounding stuff. The two singles standout from the rest.
Albums like this are overshadowed by the more well known artists of the era as is often the case with lesser known bands. There is some great music on here, rock with attitude and a with psychedelic tinge to some tracks. Born to be Wild and The Pusher steal the show. The latter is a classic psychedelic track, the lyrics are very thought provoking.
A forgotten band that deserves more recognition.
This would have been a much better EP. I lost total interest after Born to Be Wild. The first 5 songs were an ok thing though.
Totally overshadowed by Born to Be Wild, but there is other good stuff here too like The Pusher and their version of Hootchie Kootchie Man.
Oozes attitude. Did this much swagger come from 60s Canada?
Born to be wild anthem and 'the pusher' both classics.
