Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 9% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.0/100, a mean average of 74.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.4.

I'm with mrmcrook on this - I like everything they do and this is no exception. Little Beast, Powder Blue and Bitten By The Tailfly is the highlight of the album along with Presuming Ed and Coming Second but their are no bad tracks

Elbow never let me down. I like all albums I've heard from them and this is no exception. I love their sound and style. 'Powder Blue' being the track that initially turned me on to them. This has some some great tracks on it but I find it has the highest number of sub par tracks I've found on any of their albums. Bit too much filler to rate it up there with there best.

Another great album by Elbow. This one contains more ballads and fewer rock anthems than the Build a Rocket Boys and The Seldom Seen Kid (my two favourites of theirs). The title track is so beautiful, it's in my top 5 songs of all time comfortably. Also Red, Newborn and Scattered Black And Whites are great. Don't Mix Your Drinks has a lot of potential with the intro but it's slightly ruined by that weird bit in the middle, which is a shame. A few duds here towards the end of the album (Presuming Ed, Coming Second and Can't Stop) which drag down the rating a bit.

I just don’t get Elbow? I find them extremely safe and formulated across their catalogue. I don’t hate them by any means, I’m just not finding that spark & I’ve really tried. Unfortunately I feel the same about this release

Pretty fantastic debut album. Not perfect, some songs are a little soft and cushy for my taste. But when it gets heavy, man it rocks in a really unique way. My fav tracks are Bitten by the Tailfly and Coming Second

The first and still the best Elbow album as far as i'm concerned. Excellent songs sung and played with passion. A superb debut.

They used to be one of the most underrated bands around, but thankfully that has all changed. It's so well-realised it's hard to believe it's a debut, but there you go. Powder Blue, Newborn and Red are particular highlights and all quite moving, but like all their albums it's best heard in it's entirety.

Hmm... I like "Don't Mix Your Drinks", a good song, but the rest is... BRILLIANT!!

I thought they peaked with "The Seldom Seen Kid" and "Build a Rocket Boys!", but it seems they started out that way. Always something amazing going on atmospherically on this album.

Elbow are amazing! SO underrated!

Probably a more edgier Elbow than their later, more popular works. Powder Blue and Newborn are outstanding and have a raw power that they don't demonstrater more recently. Great album.
