Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 4% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.1/100, a mean average of 76.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.9.

This was my 2nd favorite album of 2003, I'm so glad I discovered it, original.
Favorite Tracks: Lola Stars and Stripes; Changes Are No Good; Love and Death; Ready For It; Still In Love Song.
Seeing the other comments I wouldn't screw Interpol. they're a great band. But this album is a classic. I wouldn't compare their music with Interpol. The Stills have their own sound. Great voice and melodies. Much more melodic than Interpol I would say. Nevertheless, a brilliant album and sound!
This is an excellent album. I recommend it highly. Of Montreal is a wonderful track.First three tracks are also fantastic and the rest is really good indie guitar music!
Sorry paladisiac but The Stills are simply not as good as Interpol, however the album is quite good even if they get a bit lost towards the end. Another criticism, is the somewhat mainstream, (B)Ryan Adam feel to their rock which can err towards blandness at times.
Screw interpol. Whether or not the stills blatantly copied the interpol sound is irrelevant when the end result is this masterful. Cascading, shimmering guitars, loping everyman vocals of love and "next week's chemical blast". Almost every song's a catchy masterpiece. By the time the opener "lola stars and stripes" calms down and loses its shimmering guitar, the chorus creeps in with an astral scope of friendship and longing. "gender bombs" is another lovely gem, almost coming in like a dance track with its rhythm (until all the guitars come in) giving us our album title ("logic will break your heart Forever / Be brave") about heart break where the chorus is a simple message of "The girl will school you". But "changes are no good" and "love and death" back-to-back let you know this is a very good album, with "changes" driving bass and guitar & cymbal action and its hollowed-man lyrics ("spoken, choked up on my notes / this heart drones / as i try and act adult / but like a walkmen falls to pieces / all parts no heart") with a little a-ha vocal afliction and "love and death" and its insular lyrical focus ("And i'm just so bored of wasting my time / Love and Death Are always on my mind ") "ready for it" wears a car crash analogy well, the ambivilence of "let's roll" seeps into the skin, "allison krausse" rocks (compared to the rest of the album) with less jangle & more "grit" and "animals and insects" brings futile despair. Then the final gem, "still in love song", drops. It's a beautiful unrequited love song with endearing high-school-like lyrics ("we were lovers / we were kissers / we were holders of hands / we were make believers / just losing time ") and taunting bass.
